How do I connect to my home PC from outside of home?

First you must set up "port forwarding" on your home PC network accordingly, to allow your iPad to connect to the home PC remotely through the firewall. This is an involved procedure recommended only for advanced users, and the procedure will vary depending on your setup. For example, if the setup is xDSL -> home Wi-Fi router -> home PC, then basically you would need to do the following to get through your firewall and connect from outside your home to your home PC:

2GoPad

Last time we left off in the tale of Windows 7 tablets, we'd taken a look at Netbook Navigator's Nav 9 slate, which by review's end had us not only wanting to send it back as soon as humanly possible, but concluding that something better just had to be on the horizon. Well, as luck would have it, just a few days later CTL's 10-inch 2goPad SL10 showed up on our doorstep with some very promising ingredients -- a capacitive touchscreen, accelerometer, front facing camera, and a Win 7 software layer. As we said in our early hands-on, we've been more impressed with the $499 (it will go up to $599 in late October) 2goPad than we ever thought we would be, but ultimately its Atom N450 processor and its software stand in its way of being the Win 7 tablet to kill 'em all. You'll want to hit the break to read all about it in our full review.

In Media Announce Tablet PC

Whether or not Windows 7 has a place on tablets or not, it isn’t stopping some brave companies from releasing consumer-oriented slate computers running Redmond’s latest operating system. Today, IN MEDIA announced the release of the uncreatively named “Windows 7 Tablet PC”.

Onkyo Windows 7 PC

Onkyo has a habit of launching interesting looking products in Japan which are then never officially released in countries. Fortunately, there are companies out there who are more than happy to purchase Japanese products and pass them onto the rest of the world for a fee. And that’s exactly what exporter Dynamism is doing with the three Windows 7 tablets Onkyo introduced last month.

Why Your Next PC Will Be a Tablet

The world of computing is at a crossroads. The primary computer for most users today is not a PC; it's a phone. While the PC sits on a desk at the office or on a coffee table at home, smartphones go everywhere with us and integrate into every part of our lives. But despite getting smarter and smarter, phones are too small to replace PCs completely. We need a device that bridges the gap between what PCs do and what mobile phones do. That device has arrived. Welcome to the age of the tablet.

Onkyo Tablet PC

Reports are coming in of a new tablet PC to hit the Japanese market like the fist of an angry kaiju (or big rubbery monster, if you prefer) and based on the spec list I’ve seen on this one, it’s actually pretty nice for a tablet PC. It’s the Onkyo TW317A7 tablet, and we’ve got the details right here.

HP Slate 500 Sold Out, but Number Produced Is Under Scrutiny

Hewlett-Packard’s Slate 500, its enterprise-centric, Windows 7-based tablet PC, is supposedly sold out. But online reports question the number of Slate 500 units actually produced.

Hewlett-Packard claims its HP Slate 500 tablet PC, equipped with Microsoft’s Windows 7, is on backorder due to “extraordinary demand.” But questions remain about how many tablets HP meant to produce.

A note on HP’s Website indicates that the HP Slate 500, which is targeted at enterprise users, will ship to customers in six weeks. HP is also reportedly planning tablets loaded with Palm webOS, the spoils of the company’s Palm acquisition earlier this year, but no definitive release dates have been announced for that more consumer-centric device line.

Hands-on with Dell Convertible Duo Tablet Laptop

The other day, Andrew spend a couple hours will Dell, chatting about the company's new Inspiron duo (it is supposed to be lowercase, we checked) tablet-cum-netbook. It would have been nice to take you all along with us, but we weren't really sure that would go down so well, so instead, you'll have to make do with these pictures and some as-yet unreleased information on battery life and the like.

Unveiled at IDF back in September, the duo made a pretty big splash for a couple of reasons. It was the first new convertible tablet PC that we'd seen for some time. The most recent one is the HP TouchSmart tm2t, which only saw an update to UM Arrandale processors in the past couple of months. The second reason is that the duo is a Tablet PC, and Andrew is particularly adamant that we not compare this to the iPad, which is not a tablet PC.

It’s a Tablet. It’s Gorgeous. It’s Costly.

Every time there’s some new hot, heavily hyped gadget from Apple, it takes only a few months for the copycats to crop up. IPod? Zune! IPhone? Android!

The iPad? Well, it came out in March, and the iPad alternatives are just landing in stores now.

Many of them run Google’s Android phone operating system. That’s a shrewd move. Android is mature, polished and free (to the pad makers), and it comes with an existing library of 100,000 apps. Furthermore, any gadget fan who’s used an Android phone will feel instantly at home on the tablet.

In other words, if you make an Android tablet, you can hit the ground running.

The most hotly awaited Android tablet is the Samsung Galaxy Tab, a sleek, sturdy slab, 7.5 by 4.7 by 0.5 inches. The glass front is a 7-inch multitouch screen; the back is off-white plastic.

Samsung sweated the details on this thing. The screen is gorgeous. The touch response is immediate and reliable. The whole thing is superfast and a pleasure to use.

When asked about the onslaught of Android tablets last month, Steven P. Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, scoffed at their size (most are 7 inches diagonal instead of 10 inches, like the iPad). “This size is useless unless you include sandpaper so users can sand their fingers down to a quarter of their size,” he said.

LG H1000B Tablet PC

"Based on design alone, it's safe to say that the inscrutable device shown above isn't the UX10 we peeked at Computex nor the Android-based Optimus Pad... unless, of course, LG's hardware engineers have tweaked the enclosure rather significantly. According to a filing that just popped up in the FCC's database, the H1000B tablet will eventually hit the US market with 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth and a copy of Windows 7, and we're also hearing that an SD card reader is likely around the edges. The downward sloping front makes us wonder if this thing isn't cut out for some sort of dock, but it's not like a peripheral port is jumping out at us, either. Our bets are on a CES 2011 debut, but here's hoping things materialize a bit quicker for you last-minute holiday shoppers."
